FAQ

Why should you consider eating more raw food?

Cooking food at high temperatures (anything above 118 degrees) reduces the vital nutrients and enzymes we need for energy and to feel satisfied. Incorporating more raw foods into your diet increases your intake of needed fiber and gives your body the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes to fuel your life. In addition, eating food in its raw, natural state helps you avoid consuming harmful additives and preservatives. Also the nuts & seeds in our snacks and prepared foods are soaked and germinated which increases their protein, enzyme, vitamin, and mineral content. More importantly, germination decreases the tannins and increases the digestibility of nutrients.

What is the importance of eating gluten-free food?

A gluten-free diet is one that excludes most grains (like wheat, rye, & barley), and is highly recommended for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Gluten is the only protein found in food that is completely indigestible. Therefore, individuals who have celiac or sensitivity will experience inflammation in the intestines and should avoid gluten, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, not all gluten-free foods are good for your health. According to Jessica Fishman Levinson, MS, RDN, CDN, many breads, waffles, pancakes, crackers, and pretzels are made with processed refined foods (like potato starch, white rice flour, & tapioca flour). Levinson suggests that people who eat foods that are inherently gluten-free, such as fruits, vegetables, gluten-free whole grains (like quinoa & buckwheat), lean protein, healthy fats, can be healthy on a gluten-free diet.

Why are complex carbohydrate foods good for you?

Complex carbohydrates break down slowly and therefore do not cause an insulin surge (or a sugar high). Complex carbs are healthy for you when eaten in the proper proportion with healthy fats and protein. Awesome Foods makes a variety of high quality snacks, prepared foods, and deserts that can help you achieve this balance. Examples of complex carbs are raw vegetables, soaked raw nuts & seeds, sprouted beans, soaked whole grains, and some fruits (like apples, pears, & berries). On the other hand, refined, simple carbohydrates are very low in nutrients and can cause your body to overproduce insulin, resulting in variety of health problems. These carbs include refined flours and sugar found in bread, pasta, candy, soda, and processed chips.

Are your products organic?

All our snacks are certified organic and labeled as such on each box. When making our prepared foods, we buy organic ingredients as much as possible; however, there are times during the winter months that organic vegetables are unavailable.

Why do you use only Himalayan salt?

We use Himalayan salt in our products since it is free of pollutants often found in sea salt and table salt. Also, Himalayan salt contains 84 minerals essential to life because it was formed over 250 million years ago. This salt is mined by hand in a protected area of the Himalayan Mountains.

Why should you add more healthy fats to your diet?

Fat is actually very important to a healthy diet. You need both saturated and unsaturated fats to properly use as a fuel source and to help absorb some vitamins and antioxidants. Omega-3 fats are vital for optimal nerve, brain, and heart function. Also, healthy fats make food more flavorful and satisfying, which means you don’t need to eat as much to feel full. It is recommended to eat more unsaturated fats (like olive oil, nuts & nut butters, avocados, seeds, flax, and oily fish) than saturated fats (like meat, poultry, & dairy). Always avoid Trans-fat which is artificial fat found in partially hydrogenated oil.
